These meetings are for Moms to come together in a fun and relaxed setting. The group will meet the 3rd Wednesday of the month for dinner and guest speakers. It's an opportunity to share resources, experiences and enjoy being with other moms of individuals with autism.

April Topic: "Why Didn't You Tell Me???" All The Things I Wish Someone Would Have Told Me about Raising a Child With Autism (That I Had to Learn the Hard Way)

Join us during World Autism Acceptance Month for NFARs Mom's Group as Chelsea Asaro, the parent of a 21 year-old with autism, shares her experiences, and lessons she's learned.  Questions welcome!

Guest Speaker: Chelsea Asaro, Autism Mom, NFAR Outreach Speacialist, and Autism Crusader

Chelsea Asaro is the mother of a son with high functioning autism (21) as well as two daughters (17 and 19). Chelsea and her family are lifelong residents of Scripps Ranch. Chelsea is also NFAR's Outreach Specialists who works predominantly with NFAR's technical training program to create employment solutions for people with autism.

Join us as Chelsea shares her perspective as seen through the lens of an autism mom on a wide variety of issues including educational placements (her son went to public, private, nonpublic, homeschool, and charter schools); coexisting diagnoses and mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and trauma; marriage and self-care; balancing autism and all the other things; and life after high school for children with autism.

The Men’s Group is for dads, step dads, and granddads helping to raise a child with autism. We offer dinner, guest speakers and a chance to network with other men in a relaxed setting.

April Topic: "Medicines and Autism, What We Know"

What do we know about medicines for treating symptoms associated with autism, for attention, anxiety and depression, etc. Come find out!

Guest Speaker: Joshua D Feder, MD, Child and Family Psychiatry   joshuafedermd.com

Dr. Joshua Feder is a child and family psychiatrist in Solana Beach, California, an Associate Clinical Professor at University of California at San Diego School of Medicine, and an Adjunct Professor at Fielding Graduate University.  He is a Father of a young man on the autism spectrum.

Dr. Feder develops programs, conducts research and works with clinicians, caregivers and children to promote regulation, social communication, and learning. Dr. Feder advocates nationally and internationally on issues related to Evidence Based Practices, and he serves as Medical Director at SymPlay, developing interactive technology and distance learning systems to support relationship-based interventions.  Many of his lectures can be found online at circlestretch.com.

Engage & Connect is a program for the whole family of children with autism, ages 2 - 8 years of age. 

Activities include circle time, motor activities, and fun activities meant to increase engagement in a fun filled, creative environment.

Sessions will be held on Thursdays from 5:15 PM – 6:25 PM.
