The group meets the 3rd Wednesday of the month, with a combination of Zoom and in-person meetings. It's an opportunity to learn from guest speakers, share resources, and enjoy connecting with other parents raising a neurodiverse child.

 

NOTE: All parents and neurodivergent young adults welcome!

 

November Topic:  Housing Services

Do you ever wonder:

  • Where will my loved one live when they are an adult?
  • How soon do you need to start the housing process with San Diego Regional Center?
  • What steps do you take?
  • What are the options for housing and residential living?

Our guest speakers will try to address these questions, and help you understand the process so that your family can be more prepared.

 

Guest Speakers:  Shelly Gonchoroff and Joanne Mull, San Diego Regional Center (SDRC)

Shelly Gonchoroff, Assistant Director Residential Services, SDRC

Shelly has worked in the field of supporting individuals with developmental disabilities since 2011. She has worked in direct care, advocacy, supervisory roles and quality assurance with both day programs and residential services. Currently, she is the Assistant Director of Residential Services at the San Diego Regional Center. She has a Masters in Human Behavior from National University.

Joanne

Joanne Mull, Program Manager of an Adult In Home Unit, SDRC

Joanne has worked supporting individuals with developmental disabilities since 1999. She has worked in respite, independent living services, employment services and day program services. Currently she is the Program Manager of an Adult In Home Unit with the San Diego Regional Center. She has a Masters in Social Work from the University of Southern California.

September Topic:  Communication Strategies you can Use!  

Discover communication strategies you can use with your child (of any age) in your daily routines, and in new situations, as every new situation comes with a new set of social expectations. Learn strategies that you can embed into your established routines and new activities that can help to build your loved ones communication skills and social competence.

Guest Speakers:  Sheri Hughes, MA, CCC-SLP, and Renee Tompkins, MS, CCC-SLP -  Poway Unified School District 

Renee and Sheri have each been Speech Language Pathologists for over 20 years.They have collectively have worked with students from preschool to high school age and young adults for many years. They share a passion for learning and teaching all things social!

Renee and Sheri were previously members of the PUSD Special Education Foundation where they helped both special educators and general education teachers in their understanding of social language issues and implementing social cognitive and Social Thinking® strategies for students.
