July Topic: “Using a relationship-based approach to decrease behavior problems, improve self-control, and improve coping among children with ASD”
The purpose of this presentation is to reflect on ways to support our children to decrease behavior problems, improve self-control, and improve coping through a relationship-based approach. Due to autism, sensory processing challenges, and other possible trauma, our children often experience intense and confusing emotions. They may feel anxious, confused, frustrated, defeated, embarrassed, incompetent, etc. Yet, supporting children to effectively understand and manage their emotions is often not emphasized. By using the relationship we have with our children, we can create a space and time to reflect on emotions, model powerful ways to manage difficult situations, and support children to maintain better self-regulation during challenging situations. This approach can not only support regulation, but set the stage for growth and improve the quality of life for the entire family.
Guest Speaker: Christian Vinceneux - Life Coach and Parenting Coach
Christian Vinceneux was born and raised in Paris, France, and has been residing in San Diego, California since 1986. For over 30 years, he worked as an occupational therapist with individuals of all ages, with an emphasis on mental health and children. He now works as a life coach and parenting coach through his own practice, Life Guide Coaching, with a focus on mindful parenting. When parents are stressed, everyone in the family is stressed. Over the years, Christian has observed the high level of stress of families he has worked with and how much this challenge tends to be overlooked by service providers. His goal is always to decrease the stress of the entire family and to promote the growth of all family members by addressing every day challenges in a thoughtful and matter of fact way. His approach is holistic, developmental, family centered, and relationship based. Over the years, he has developed a unique framework to address emotional, social, and behavior challenges. Christian has taken a strong interest in sharing his passion by coaching parents, educators, and therapists on finding ways to support the growth of children and to improve the quality of life of the entire family. Christian works with parents to create positive changes that benefit the entire family. He consults locally and remotely with parents, schools, and agencies, on a variety of issues related to children's development. Christian is passionate to advocate for those whose voice is not always heard.
